This book is so well written, funny, and straightforward. The author’s background is a lesson in the school of hard knocks. Leslie Brooks is a motivated no BS teacher. It seems that some parents have not been taught how to be parents when it comes to education for their kids. This is a must read from a teacher who has been in the trenches for years. With two grown up children myself, I would have cherished any teacher like her to have kicked my kids into high gear for paying attention in class, and understanding the value of learning every subject in school. Hell, America needs to take this book to heart lest we crumble as the greatest free nation on earth.

Great book! I found a lot of the information to be not only eye-opening, but entertaining and interesting. The perspective shared by the author demonstrates her experience in education and teaching. I found the insight regarding the effect of technology on education is playing to be interesting and logical. I do highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone regardless of whether or not you're a teacher or parent. From the discussion of money in education to standardized tests. You should definitely invest in yourself and read this book!

My friends and I could never understand why our school did so little for our kids. My son was a difficult child and we, dedicated and intelligent parents, couldn’t seem to get the results he should have been able to achieve. His school had an excellent repertoire of side-stepping and excuses. In this book, we see the other side of the coin: what the teachers have to put up with. How the New Ideas and Admin-Think is choking the life out of learning. Read and learn!

Leslie Brooks has written a book that needed to be written. She has beautifully and skillfully said what so many are thinking. Education in this great country is in deep peril. Her voice is one that needs to be heard. Too many of us have become complacent with "how things are" and adopt the sad attitude of "what can I do"? Well start by reading this book. Then take action. Be as courageous as Ms. Brooks is!
